Through correspondence with JRA authorities, we're relieved to hear that resurfacing of Jameson Avenue has been scheduled to happen over 2018/2019. In the meantime they are committed to patching and fixing potholes as they are reported. So we urge residents to please remain active and report street defects as you become aware of them. JRA has a very useful smart phone app called JRA Find&Fix which allows users to geotag the location of the defect and submit a picture. As many residents may already be aware, the Melrose North Residents Association has started an initiative called Skeem Saam who's aim is to engage with waste collectors, both formal an informal, in order to clean up our neighbourhood, specifically the parks. Many of you who frequent the parks in our area may have already noticed the improvement in cleanliness. This is for the most part due to Skeem Saam's engagement with the dwellers there and incentivising protection of our public space. However, for Skeem Saam to be more effective, it requires community input. So, what can you as a resident do to assist? We're glad you asked :) Skeem Saam needs the following from you, the residents: On your normal waste pick up day, put “dry” waste on pavements in bags sorted by plastic, paper and cans - this is what the recyclers can make use of. Food and “wet” waste should be separated from this and will be left for Pikitup to collect. Dear Melrose residents, In the interest of keeping residents informed of happenings in our suburb we'd like to provide some feedback on our activities of late. The MRA is currently in the process of motivating the approval of the Precinct Plan, compiled by the committee with input from residents, to the MMC. We see approval of this plan as an important milestone in ensuring development within the suburb, particularly on the peripheries, happens in a controlled manner. In addition to this we have consigned an qualified contractor to conduct a traffic study on the current road network within Melrose with specific attention to Tottenham, Jellicoe, Tyrwhitt and Oxford. Dear residents, Below is some very useful information from the DA Councillor for Ward 117, Tim Truluck, regarding water restrictions, please take note. Water Restrictions - The Lowdown [Recently], our new MMC, former Ward 90 Cllr, Anthony Still, announced that Rand Water is reducing our water allowance to the City by 15% because of the ongoing drought. This resulted in a few more stringent water restrictions being imposed on us. From November last year, we have been at Level 2 restrictions, and on 1 August this year the City imposed penalty charges on households that use over 20Kl/month (i.e. 20 000 litres or about 660 litres per day). Basically, we have to reduce our usage by 15%. So the following restrictions are now in place: No watering of gardens or use of hoses from 6am in the morning to 6pm in the evening. When you do water your garden, you can only use a hand held hose or watering can. No irrigation systems or sprinklers are allowed to be used. No washing of cars...

Notice to Melrose and Melrose Estate Residents. Following public consultation, the  MRA has submitted to the Johannesburg Council its proposed revision of the District 4 and Area 2D component of the Rosebank Urban Development Framework, 2008. The proposal, a copy of which can be found in the link below, is a response from the residents of the area to the current implementation processes being followed; in particular, the urgent need for a solution to the development and traffic issues arising from the high intensity land use rezonings in Area 2D. Dear Melrose residents, As some of you may already be aware, The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has recently launched a mobile application that is capable of logging street maintenance issues with them. It has great functionality in that it allows the user to geotag the location of the fault, send a photo of it and describe the problem, be it a pothole, traffic lights, signage or any other roads related issue. We urge those of you with smart phones to download the app and report street maintenance issues as you find them.
